What makes getting an architecture degree hard?

… so actually DOING the degree would be: HARD.
Complicated applied Maths and very tedious sketching and design make it hard. But if you got the skills and determination, it wouldn’t be so bad.
First of all, most reputable architecture schools are difficult to get into since they have limited openings each year. The courses are not difficult, it just a matter of the amount of work. While I was in school, I often would spend 72 hours without sleep working on a project in studio. Other people in my class would be on a similar schedule. The philosophy in design studio is that you start being behind and you will never catch up. Your professor and the visiting jurors will reinforce that during grading/judging. You practically end up living in the Studio with all your classmates. Architecture School is a marathon that pushes your body and mind to its limits.
