I don’t have a degree in architecture but I do have experience in travelling and drawing, particularly drafting on AutoCAD. How can I translate that to a career in architecture (drafting, design, etc.)?

It is possible, however you must first have at least 8 years of experience working in the field (it might be more), then take and pass all
Architecture Licensing Exams (10 in California) plus the Oral Exam.
Architecture is like music. You have to engage with patterns and technique until you can put your own patterns and techniques together.
Formal education helps but if you want to do it your way nobody can stop you. Since you already have experience in drawing and drafting on Auto CAD you need to understand the science that goes in to the back end of the same.
Working with a good Architect will help if you can find somebody who will impart hard earned knowledge, but if you do not find that a good book and some lessons will not hurt.
