My favorites:
The Chrysler Building - New York City - Art Deco.
Buffalo City Hall - Art Deco.
ANY Frank Lloyd Wright - especially Taliesin (sp.?) and the old Larkin Building and Darwin Martin House complex in Buffalo. The Larkin Building was the first “modern” office building, but, of course, they tore it down.
Enter “Buffalo/Architecture” - you’ll be here next summer if you hold a true interest. We have a wealth of it.
The Prudential Building - Louis Sullivan, etc., etc., etc….
I don’t know the parameters of your studies, but the Olmsted Parks Systems are tremendous (yes, we have that, too). Many major Eastern cities are built on his design, i.e. Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia as well. A Center, City Hall, with the major streets running out from it like the spokes of a wheel.
Advantage - you can’t get lost!
Not in existence anymore, but the Chicago’s World Fair exposition was built by amazing American talent and yielded international acclaim and competition for architecture abroad. Everything built was eventually dismembered but there are pictures of the exhibits and tons of written info on the architects. There is a photo out there of all architects posing in a picture (I personally saw it in the book The Devil In The White City…which is about the Chicago’s world fair). I believe the most famous exhibit built was the “glass house” or “glass tower”, something like that. 1893.
well, technically the statue of liberty is a building as well as a statue. Frank Lloyd Wright built a very famous house over a waterfall (FLWright is a celebrated american architect) the empire state building. The rockerfeller mansion in newport rhode island… a few there. Good Luck
