4 years to get a bachelor
2 years more for the masters degree
6 in total
its not about the school, its what you do with degree afterwards that matters
i would say hold up perfect grades…take drawing/arch classes? if theyre are any at a local collage..
important that you excel in math.
youd pretty much have to design a famous building to be a famous architect…doesnt just happen.
good luck.!
5 year bachelor program in college, in high school take classes that are similar to visual arts, computer classes, and drafting and designing. Once out of college it may take up to 10 years to achieve the highest level of architecture.
Usually, it takes 5 years to earn a B.Arch (Bachelors or Architecture) degree from an accredited college of architecture. In order to be qualified for a license to practice architecture, you must obtain either a B.Arch or an M.Arch (master’s of architecture). You do not need both, as some answerers have incorrectly assumed.
Once you’ve finished school, you will begin the Intern Development Program (IDP) which requires you to work for a licensed architect and gain experience in a wide range of prescribed activities including drafting, contract negotiation, site visits, etc. This takes a minimum of three years, though it is possible to earn IDP credit while still in school.
Once you have completed your IDP, you are qualified to take a series of 9 Architectural Record Exams (AREs). If you pass these tests, you will be eligable to recieve your architect’s license. Most states are moving to allow the candidate to take the ARE while still and intern, but that’s in the future.
So, to conclude:
5 years B.Arch
3 years IDP
1-2 years to complete you AREs and apply for a license.
Equals 9 to 10 years before you can legally call yourself an “architect.” An you’ll never make as much as a doctor or lawyer.
