line429 asked:
I’m thinking about returning to school for an Architecture degree. I used 3ds Max when I was in school and I’m currently teaching myself Blender. Would a firm look for experience in a specific CAD program, or would something created in Blender carry as much weight?
One Response on Can Architecture work in a 3d modeling program like Blender translate to CAD experience?
Most Firms will look for CAD or BIM program experience such as ArchiCAD, Revit or AutoCAD to name a few. These programs are used to produce working drawings but other rendering programs, such as Artlantis, are used to produce photo realistic, presentation quality renders.
Your 3D modeling experience will come in handy, but a knowledge of CAD will be more attractive to an Architecture Firm.
You can download a 30 day full version trial of ArchiCAD from if you want to have a play around with a CAD program and they offer a free 12 month student version if you are studying Architecture.
Hope this helps…..
